qtSatVis Preview

qtSatVis Polar Plot View

Welcome to this preview page for the qtSatVis GPS observation planning utility

What Is It?

qtSatVis takes a GPS almanac file, as can be obtained from your own navigation receiver or downloaded from the U.S. Coast Guard Navigation Center almanac information page, and uses it to calculate and display the satellite configuration at a given epoch or time period.

What Does It Do?

It can show the satellite traces over a period of time in a polar plot for each individual satellite visible at the observer's position above a given, configurable elevation mask. It can also give detailed satellite position information at a specific epoch, as shown in the snapshot below.

qtSatVis Table View

Pending implementation is the display of DOP information graphs and report printouts.

Underlying Technology

This is little more than a Qt4 frontend for some of the functionality provided by GPSTk. In order to make eventual deployment easier, I have recently created GPSTk RPM packages for a number of Linux distributions, which can be found in my openSUSE repository.

Download

Preview downloads will be available, hopefully, towards the end of March 2008. If you are interested in access to the source code before it's generally available, you may use the contact page, or drop me an e-mail via the gpsd-dev mailing list.
